Flower Pot Egg Candling

Check the fertility of your bird or reptile eggs with this great candling trick! Place a flowerpot over a lamp or flashlight and wrap a towel around the base of the flowerpot to block any escaping light. Moisten a paper towel, place the towel over the hole in the flowerpot and gently push the towel into a slight basket indent over the hole. Set the egg on the hole and look for veins or a fetus inside the egg. If the egg yolk floats to the top of the egg and no veins are visible, the egg is infertile. Check the fertile eggs to see if the embryos are stuck to the egg shell.
