DIY Horse Mat Training

Get your horse ready for the trail by training with a mat! Place a doormat near your horse, let your horse walk up to the mat to sniff it and praise them with a clicker sound and treats when they do. Lead your horse to stand on the mat with one or both feet and praise them when they do. Set additional door mats along a path and if your horse is target trained, set the target on each mat until they stand on the mat, then praise them and lead them to the next mat with the target, or simply lead your horse to each mat and praise them as they stand on it or walk across it.
