DIY Solar Heated Water Trough

Construct a water trough for your horses that stays warm in the winter! Assemble a wood box with only three walls and attach a clear piece of plastic as the third wall. Cut a hole out of the top that is large enough for your horse’s head and paint the structure black matte inside and out. Cover a metal or plastic water trough with black paint, set the trough in the stand and place the stand in your paddock with the clear side facing the south. Splash some water on your horse’s nose to introduce it to the heated water trough.
