Hamper Bird Travel Carrier
Take your bird on a picnic with this simple travel carrier! Measure a small pop-up laundry hamper and assemble PVC pipes into a perch. Glue a large PVC cap onto either side bar of the perch to make food and water bowls. Put a piece of newspaper in the hamper, then set the perch in the bottom of the laundry basket and walk to the park with your bird.
I found a pop-up hamper. Can you post the information about the PVC pipes and cups? Thank you.
Crystal,
When you go to the PVC section in a hardware store, there will be a row of baskets and each basket will have a different shaped piece in it. Ultimately, you can use any connectors or size of pipe that you’d like. The pipe size you should use is whichever one would be the most comfortable size foothold for your bird. Below is a general outline of the parts and assembly based on the perch in this photo, but again, you can design it however you’d like. PVC is very easy to work with; there are connectors in just about every shape you can think of. Also, wrapping the perch bar with veterinary wrap will make it easier for your bird to hold onto it.
For the PVC perch, you will need:
4 PVC elbow pieces
3 pieces of PVC pipe: 2 short, 1 long
2 PVC T connectors
For the bowls, you will need:
2 large PVC end caps
PVC glue
Instructions:
Measure the hamper and cut the PVC pipes to the lengths needed. (A hardware store will usually cut them for you.)
Attach a PVC T connector on either end of one long piece of PVC pipe. Put a short pipe through either of the T connectors on the long pipe. Attach a PVC elbow piece on each end of the short pipes. That will make the main perch; the elbow pieces make the feet.
If you want to add the food/water bowls, glue them onto either side rail of the perch. OR, attach a snap T connector onto either side rail and glue the pipe cap on top of the snap connectors, that way they can easily snap on and off so you don’t have to clean the whole perch just to wash the bowls.
For a visual of the parts, look at this PVC Bird Training Perch. The elbow connectors are the ones on each corner of the base of the stand, and the T connectors are the ones holding up the columns on the base.
Good luck!
