DIY Wire Shelving Cage

Use wire shelves to make a cage for your chinchilla, bird or other pet! Cut a piece of melamine to the size needed for the base of the cage, and cut a short piece of melamine to line each wall of the base of the cage. Attach the wall pieces around the edges of the base piece, then attach rolling casters to the bottom corners of the base. Stand wire shelves side-by-side along the edges of the cage base to make the walls of the cage, leaving one space open for a doorway. Cut thin blocks of wood to the size needed for the cage, drill a hole in either end of each block of wood and use washers and bolts to attach the blocks across the cage in each direction to hold the wire shelves in place. Cut wood boards to make shelves for the cage and attach the boards on top of the various wood blocks with washers and bolts. Use zip ties to attach a piece of wire shelving over the doorway, lay wire shelves across the top to make a top for the cage, and use zip ties to attach the top cage shelves to the side cage shelves.
