Bookcase Rat Cage

Convert a bookcase into a cage for your rats! Get a bookcase and cut a hole out of each shelf. Cover the bookcase with silicone caulk and paint it with nontoxic water and ammonia-resistant paint. Cut wood boards to be ladders, glue small wood blocks along each board as steps, and cover each ladder with a layer of caulk and paint. Attach a small wood block on each shelf for the base of the ladder to lean against. Assemble four pieces of wood into a square to make a door, cover the door with wire mesh, and attach the door on the bookcase with hinges and a latch. Make a second door for the next section of the cage, and furnish the cage for your pets.
