DIY Gourd Birdhouse

Make a gourd into a warm winter nest for wild birds! Find a gourd and dry the gourd if not already dried. Cut or drill a hole in the front of the gourd for an entrance and remove a good amount of the gourd contents with a spoon. Drill a hole through the top of the gourd for hanging and drill a hole below the entrance to insert a wood dowel or stick for a perch. Paint or decorate the gourd with a leather dye, shoe polish or other paint and cover the gourd with a sealant. Hang the homemade gourd birdhouse in your yard with a ribbon and hang a bird feeder nearby to keep your birds fed through the winter.
