DIY Injured Owl Rescue

Learn about what you should do if you encounter an injured owl! One of the greatest causes of death to an injured owl is shock, which can occur during the rescue process. Wear gardening gloves or other thick gloves to protect your hands from the owl’s talons. Note the location where you discovered the owl so the bird can be returned to it’s territory once healed. Poke several holes in a cardboard box and gently coax the owl into the box or wrap the owl in a towel if no box is available. Place the box somewhere warm, quiet and dark while you take the owl to the nearest veterinarian. Do not offer the owl any food or water, as it may need surgery, and interact with the owl as little as possible to prevent shock.
