DIY Parrot Foot Wave Trick

Teach your bird to wave with it’s foot! Place your bird on a table or perch and select a treat that your bird will enjoy. Hold the treat in one hand, wave the fingers of your treat hand and say a command, such as “Wave.” Place your free hand in front of your bird as you would for them to step onto your hand, wait for your bird to raise one foot, then remove your hand and praise your bird with a treat when it does. Once your bird knows to lift it’s foot, wait to praise your bird until it raises the foot higher or places it’s foot back down. Watch for innovative behaviors, such as your bird wiggling it’s toes or raising the foot very high and praise those behaviors.
