DIY Solitary Bee Hotel

Assemble a habitat for the solitary bees in your area! Disassemble a bamboo garden fence or cut pieces of bamboo to various lengths. Drill one end of the longest bamboo pieces to a wood board and drill the shorter pieces of bamboo onto the longer pieces. If any of the bamboo poles are fully hollow, cover the top end with a piece of tarp or plastic. Hang the solitary bee hotel in tall tree with the open side of the bamboo facing the ground, plant flowers near the tree to provide the bees with food and register your habitat with the University of Florida to study and catalog the bee activity.
