Plastic Container Vernal Pool

Assist your local ecosystem by creating a vernal pool in your yard! Find a shady location in your yard for the pool and a plastic bin, litter box or other container, sprinkle flour around the plastic container to mark the area and dig a hole nearly as deep as the plastic container. Place the plastic container in the hole, fill the area around the hole for the pool to be firmly in the ground and stack bricks in a corner to create a stairway for adult amphibians to exit. Cover the bottom of the pool with leaf mold and use decorative rocks to line the edges of the pool. Fill the pool with water, maintain the pool with mosquito dunk tablets and ensure the pool does not fill with debris.
